We began the fourth day of our pilgrimage by walking along the highway, and then we turned onto a bike path and a hiking trail. With every passing kilometer, the route became more and more challenging, until we finally began the ascent along a mountain trail. We were feeling a bit tired, but the beautiful views and the experience of making the pilgrimage together gave us strength, even when it turned out that, once again, we couldn’t find the right path.
Novices of the Society of Jesus continue to make their pilgrimage steadfastly in their cassocks. This catches the attention of passersby. The reactions are usually positive: some people wave and greet them, while others ask where they’re going and who they are. Some fear they might be a Muslim group.
Today’s lesson...
Hardship, fatigue, and helplessness allow us to encounter ourselves. Self-love is sometimes the hardest thing of all... That is why the arms of the Good Shepherd are so important—He who seeks out the lost sheep, brings the strayed one back, tends to the wounded, strengthens the sick, and protects the fat and strong.
