We started the day very early—with Holy Mass in Pietralunga—so we could set out on the trail while the temperature was still comfortable. After coffee, as we were leaving town, we stopped by a site associated with apparitions of the Virgin Mary and began our hike.
There’s something special about mornings on the trail. Even when we have a 7-kilometer uphill climb ahead of us, and the incline makes our calves make their presence known very clearly, in the morning air everything seems… quite pleasant.
We’re grateful that we can pause to reflect on our surroundings—on the beauty of creation—on what God allows us to see.
How many times can you say, “It’s beautiful here”?
It turns out… quite a lot.
22 km, mountains, heat—and yet we arrived at our lodging around 1:00 p.m.
Now it’s time to rest up before tomorrow’s longest leg. Our next stop is Valfabbrica. And in two days, Assisi!
