We began the day at 6:00 a.m. with the Eucharist in the chapel. Father Mariusz Wilk, reflecting on the Word of God, focused on faithfulness and on what it truly means to be a servant of Christ.
As we left Gubbio, we naturally couldn’t just walk past the wolf without a second thought. It was right here, according to tradition, that St. Francis encountered the wolf that had long terrorized the town’s residents. Today, a monument stands at the site of that encounter, serving as a reminder of the saint’s extraordinary story—he chose to befriend the wolf rather than fight it.
We had 30 kilometers ahead of us, so we decided to stop for coffee first and then set off.
The route turned out to be incredibly varied. One moment asphalt, the next mountains, and a moment later a forest and dense thickets. We slid down hills, jumped over obstacles, and covered one stretch after another, so that more than a few drops of sweat—and even blood—fell to the ground today. Fortunately, after every difficult stretch, a beautiful viewpoint and the warmth of the Italian sun awaited us.
Everyone reached Valfabbrika at their own pace. No rush, no race—just step by step, until finally we all arrived.
In the evening, a delicious dinner awaited us, along with a completely different kind of Italian landscape: children’s shouts, conversations, and the constant kicking of a soccer ball.
It looks like we’ll finish our game tomorrow.
Assisi is really not far away now.
