Morning Mass at St. Oswald Church in Mules marked the beginning of another day of our pilgrimage.
Today’s hike through the Eisack-Isarco River valley brought to mind the Israelites’ crossing of the Red Sea. As we walked today, we felt a bit like Moses. He had the walls of the Red Sea on his left and right; we had the walls of the Alps. The sound of the sea was replaced by the cars passing us on the highway.
We were accompanied on our way by today’s Word, which, once accepted, becomes sweeter than honey, and by the image of the Good Shepherd, who leaves his flock to seek out the lost sheep. We decided that if we lost our way today, we would bleat and ring a little bell.
We end the day in Bressanone, the hometown of St. Joseph Freinademetz, a Verbite missionary to China. Through the intercession of the patrons of our pilgrimage and the local saints, we pray for vocations to the service of the Church.
The evening roll call and quiet singing as darkness falls bring the third day of our pilgrimage to a close.
